Hurghada hotels: 15 to 35 minutes
Hotels in Hurghada itself are the closest to the airport. A private transfer from Hurghada Airport to Hurghada hotels takes about 15 minutes to resorts on the airport side of town and up to 35 minutes to the northern end of El Ahyaa or the Marina, depending on traffic.
Popular hotels in this area include Steigenberger Aldau, Sindbad Club, Titanic Royal, Pickalbatros Jungle Aqua Park and Caves Beach Resort.
Sahl Hasheesh: about 30 to 40 minutes
Sahl Hasheesh is a gated resort bay south of Hurghada. The drive follows the coastal road and then the resort entrance road to your hotel. A private transfer to Sahl Hasheesh takes 30–40 minutes, for example to Jaz Elite Asteria.
Makadi Bay: about 35 to 45 minutes
Makadi Bay resorts sit in several clusters along the coast south of Sahl Hasheesh. Plan around 35–45 minutes for a private transfer to Makadi Bay, for example to Grand Waterworld Makadi.
El Gouna: about 35 to 45 minutes
El Gouna lies north of Hurghada. Although El Gouna has a small airfield for private light aircraft, scheduled and charter flights land at Hurghada Airport. A private transfer to El Gouna takes 35–45 minutes. We also compare taxi, Uber, shuttle and private transfer to El Gouna.
Soma Bay: about 50 to 65 minutes
Soma Bay is a peninsula with its own resort zone. There is no airport in Soma Bay; the nearest airport is Hurghada (HRG), about 55 km away. A private transfer to Soma Bay takes 50–65 minutes, for example to Kempinski Soma Bay.
Safaga: about 60 to 75 minutes
Safaga has a port but no passenger airport, so most visitors fly into Hurghada. A private transfer to Safaga takes 60–75 minutes along the coastal road.
El Quseir and Marsa Alam: 2 to 4 hours
Further south, the drive becomes a long-distance journey: about 2 h 15 – 2 h 45 to El Quseir, 2 h 45 – 3 h 30 to North Marsa Alam and Port Ghalib, and 3 h 30 – 4 h 15 to Marsa Alam, for example to Casa Mare Resort or Lazuli Hotel.
Marsa Alam also has its own airport (RMF), which is closer to many southern resorts. If your flight lands in Hurghada, a private vehicle reserved only for your group is the most comfortable way to cover this distance.
What can change your drive time
- Time of day: evenings and weekends in central Hurghada can add 10–15 minutes.
- Exact hotel position: large resort areas such as Makadi Bay and El Gouna stretch over several kilometres.
- Security checkpoints on the coastal road south of Safaga.

When to leave your hotel for your departure flight
Plan to arrive at Hurghada Airport about 3 hours before an international flight. For your return transfer, add the drive time from the table above.
